Happy Easter and 1 Year Here

A joyful Easter to everyone! And a 2 fold celebration as it means we've survived 1 year up here in the woods. So from our house to yours, may you enjoy the day and reflect on the hope & promises that Easter brings.

This would be one of the promises for me . New life.... in the form of a Hosta. Hard to think that there is still 2 1/2 feet of snow in the woods and some places none at all. These pics were taken today.

It doesn't seem like a year but then it seems like forever. When we moved last March there was no snow... the week after we moved in, there was 2 feet that fell. The snow of winter is relentless here but the peace and quiet means so much. The city was killing us, the stress, the traffic, the hoardes of people. We've made a good adjustment to the pace and in doing, no longer worry about keeping up pretenses. In suburbia, it was a way of life for us. Here it means nothing. We've cut down on consumerism and have adopted new principles regarding "using it up" and "making do". There's still changes to be made, but we're getting better as we learn the "ways" . Having the internet has made all the difference in the world for staying connected. I'm not sure if I could have done as well without it!

This sign hangs on the garage.

And this is the view looking down the road from our mailbox. That's Mt Arvon ahead.

There's plenty of windows here and the plants and dogs love it. Sometimes you have to wear sun glasses to sit in the living room yet other times it's so dark, you have to wait days for a peak of sun.

Of course we have to convey some of that northwoods lodge look. The cupola below has been buried all winter. Now its free to go with the warmer winds.

I promise no more snow photos. We'll leave off with this one and the idea that you'll see this chair again in a much more favorable state.

Till the next time, Jane

A blessed Easter to you and yours also!

Is Mt. Arvon part of the Porcupine Mts.? I have fond memories of that part of the world.

It reminds me of places in the Rockies! I think it's wonderful that you have done this, and it may be the smartest thing you've ever done, as the economy wobbles. Do you have animals or grow a vegetable garden? Your post reminded me of an old book from the 70s or 80s - Five Acres and Independence. =)

We have all enjoyed looking at your snow photos. Jimmy wishes it snows here, Moo loves the big pink Easter egg and Tom says hello. It sounds like you have done what we would like to do - we are trying to do it in the 'burbs - but will have to wait until the kids move out of home to move 'out bush'

Jane, thanks for sharing part of your lovely home with us. I used to live in Garden City (Detroit) and remember the 'burbs. Now, many years and several moves later, I live happily in the city. Go figure. Connie

Jane,

Being a Yooper has many good points and some bad. Living here all my life I see people take a lot of things for granted, following you this year reminds me of them with your every post. Nature can be both beutiful and relentless with our longggggg winters but compared to the city life with all its traffic, noise and nonconnection you must be in paradise.
Happy Spring! It will come I promise, it does every year in it own time. Dont plant a garden to soon or you will be replanting it...
Happy Easter Toni
